What is Personal Safety and why is it different to self-defense?
To help answer that question here is a quote from the Combat Academy in the UK
“There is a big difference between self-defense and personal safety. Self-defense is predicated on the fact that you are in a very bad place, to begin with. Things have already gone wrong or escalated and violence has already occurred or is an imminent threat. As such, self-defense is making sure the situation doesn’t get any worse or surviving the encounter – it is damage control, pure and simple. However, no damage control is EVER as good as preventing the problem in the first place. That’s personal safety..”
To be specific …
The difference between personal safety and Self-Defense could be defined as:
Personal Safety is the process of minimizing and controlling your
exposure to potentially dangerous or violent situations, through awareness and planning of actions.
